KIDS AND YOUTH SUNDAY PROGRAMS IN DECEMBER

In the lead up to Christmas it will be so good to have all ages in our church family all in together to worship God and learn from his word! It will also give our volunteers a break as we reach the end of the year.

  • ELOS - will have their final week break-up in the Hall on Sunday Dec 7th. Grade 5's are also welcome to join.

  • School-aged children - There will be activity packs for children of all ages (from creche to ELOS), and all ages are welcome to remain in the service. Parents are responsible for supervising their children. Please do feel free to use the care room as well if that's helpful.

  • Preschool-aged children - We will still have volunteers so that creche and DPKinder kids can head to creche for some supervised fun if that would work better for them!

The Useful Gifts shop is coming back to DPC this Christmas!

After the service every Sunday between now and Christmas we will have a Tearfund Useful Gifts Shop set up where you can buy gift cards starting at just $5 for some of the teachers / friends / loved ones in your life who have enough stuff already and to bring lasting change to some of the most vulnerable people around the world.

Chickens, lifesaving nutrition, Train a teacher, Keep a Girl Learning, Support a First Nations Leader ... some of the really useful gifts that you can choose from. View the catalogue here.

Any questions: chat with Martine (who has visited some of Tearfund's projects in India and seen the incredible impact they have)

Sermon Outline

Advent Sermon

Part of the One True Story

Advent is an invitation to be part of the one true story about Jesus the Saviour

1.   The Christmas story and your story

2.   The story that unites the story of Israel

1.     The offspring of Abraham who brings blessing (Genesis 12:1-3; John 8:56)

2.     The greater presence of God (Exodus 40:34-35; John 14:3)

3.     The fulfiller of the law (Exodus 20; Matthew 5:17)

4.     The spirit-filled leader (Judges 3:9-11; Matthew 3:16-17)

5.     The true king who rules with love and justice (2 Samuel 7:12-16; Luke 1:31-33)

6.     The better temple for forgiveness (2 Chronicles 7:12; John 2:19-22)

7.     The suffering servant who redeems from exile (Isaiah 42; 49:5-6; 52:13-53:12; Matthew 12:18-21; Acts 8:26-35)

3.   The story with an invitation to all people

·      Outsiders were part of Jesus’ backstory and his birth

·      Anyone can join Jesus’ saved people by faith

o   Anyone can join Abraham’s family (Romans 4:16-71)

o   Anyone can come under his loving rule (Matthew 28:18-20; 1 Corinthians 1:2)

o   Anyone can receive forgiveness through him (Acts 26:16-18)

o   Anyone can be redeemed back to God (1 Peter 1:18-19)

4.   Embracing the invitation this Christmas

1.     Explore the invitation more through studying the Bible

o   Read the opening chapters of Matthew and Luke. And then keep going!

o   Borrow a book from the DPC book nook.

o   Chat to a Christian.

o   Watch some videos online (search Bible Project, Wes Huff, Glen Scrivener)

2.     Meditate on what it means for your story to be caught up in Jesus’ story

3.     Share the invitation with others
