Jonah - Introduction

Escaping God

God’s powerful, loving presence is a blessing to those who run to Jesus

  1. Where do you run to and hide?

  2. Jonah thought he could run away from God (1:1-3)

    • We run too! We hide, we rebel, we ignore.

  3. Jonah is challenged by the powerful, loving ruler of the whole world (1:4-17)

    • Omnipotent = All powerful (Prov. 16:3; Jer 32:17; Psalm 107)

    • Omnipresent = All present (Psalm 139:7-10; Jeremiah 23:24)

    • Omnibenevolent = All loving (Exodus 34:6-7; 1 John 4:8)

  4. Jesus is the powerful, loving ruler come to earth to save (Mark 4:35-41; Matthew 11:28-29)

  5. Christian mission is about calling people to run to Jesus

    • Do you believe that running to Jesus is worthwhile? (Matthew 11:28-29; Hebrews 6:16-20)

    • Do you believe that all people need to hear about Jesus so they can run to him?

    • Do you appreciate that people run for different reasons?
